Iron defficiency
FATIGUE
Temporary loss of strength and energy resulting from hard
physical or mental work.
The other day, I wanted to keep the house clean and I had
it planned out already; not forgetting that I had a six month old to cater to.
Exclusive breastfeeding is my thing and I love the
outcome of it on the boys but you know, different strokes for different folks.
We are all different and go through life differently. Story for another day.
So I started by breastfeeding the six month old and of
course he slept and wanted me to remain by his side. I tried getting up
carefully but the boy is just too sensitive. He started crying as soon as he
sensed my absence.
House chores stared at me and the baby awake. What am I
going to do I asked myself, but as a proper African somebody,
I decided to strap the baby to my back and then work began. The chores were simple and not much but i had become too tired to finish up.
I decided to strap the baby to my back and then work began. The chores were simple and not much but i had become too tired to finish up.
In fact, the tiredness was no longer ordinary. I discovered that I became
tired over little things as getting up from one point to another. I literally
woke up tired every day, bending down was war and getting up felt even worse with bouts of dizziness.
Since baby one, I have been unusually weak and so lazy
about everything. It’s not normal for me to get tired easily. ‘Ki lo wa de?
Questions popped up in my head but all the answers I got just told me to relax
and rest more. Trust me, relaxing and taking things easy just made me lazier
and wanting more rest.
To cut the story, I discovered after a medical checkup that I needed
more blood in my body and I had not fully recovered from baby one’s birth. I
lacked major nutrients in my body and if care is not taken I might suffer worse
consequences. The big English is POST
PARTUM IRON DEFICIENCY ANAEMIA.
This condition is caused by bleeding or inadequate
dietary iron intake. Symptoms include fatigue, breathlessness and so many more
that we will eventually get to. It is very dangerous if left untreated. It kills slowly.
Neglecting our health after childbirth causes several
complications that can be avoided. Research has shown that it is the most
prevalent problem in the world and the major reason for maternal mortality. We
should however, try to put more efforts into being there for ourselves too as
much as we want to be there for our family.
We need to be strong for ourselves to be super support.

Very enlightening. I would also recommend that we be open to seek for help when we can't handle it all.
ReplyDeleteI also felt similar, fatigue!!! Thank God I was able to realize early and learn to relax.
