Testimony Time
On a thanksgiving Sunday in my church, a couple gave their
testimony on how they had a normal delivery (vagina birth) without any help
from the doctors as they had been advised previously to keep open minds in case
they might have to do a caesarian section because of the complications they were
managing at that time.
I was really happy and rejoiced with them although, the man
didn’t forget to chip in how they rebuked the devil to counter the doctor’s
suggestion. He made it look like C.S is a form of affliction. I became worried for the other women in the congregation who
will be needing C.S in the future but have been affected by his harmless remark.
In my opinion, C.S is no curse but an intervention. Many
women are living and are healthy with their babies because they had this
intervention done on time. So many women have died and are still dying because
they think it’s a form of affliction and they begin to think less of themselves. Some
women even say no to C.S for religious reasons.
Science is evolving and the cure for so many diseases have
been found and researches are still on to solve more problems. Why then should
we continue to think that C.S as a medical intervention is not God’s solution
to stop female mortality.
My labour room experience with my first baby thought me that
God uses different things to bring peace to us in our various situations. I had
dilated fully and was pushing actively with crazy contractions but the baby
didn’t just come through. After some hours of unproductive labour, I started
getting hints that baby had started losing his breath (heart rate dropping) and
getting tired so I had to be placed on oxygen.
A doctor who according to my husband was passing by,
decided to check the labour room I was in and immediately without any prolonged
check tried to calm me down to tell me the need to go straight to the theatre.
He hadn’t finished explaining when I said yes. He located dear husband for
consent and within few minutes baby was out, hail and healthy.
Long story short, I was diagonised with cephalopelvic
disproportion(CPD). In simple english, baby could not come through because my
pelvis was too narrow for the size of my baby. You can imagine the pain I went
through for hours while the baby was struggling to pass through; and to think that so many women have died and are still dying because of cultural and religious sentiments about C.S is disheartening.
Cephalopelvic disproportion is a pregnancy complication in
which there is a size mismatch between the mother’s pelvis and the baby’s head.
It can make vaginal delivery dangerous or impossible. Prolonged labour from CPD
often result in serious birth injuries that are often not reversible to both
mother and child. It sometimes end both lives.
Our faith is important and there is no impossibility with
God. We should also remember that all medical interventions we see today are
also part of God’s ways of answering our prayers.
Our lives are precious, let us take good care.
I believe God has given man all the wisdom that is being used to save lives. CS is not a sin or failure, it is God's intervention to help save lives. Our priority is the health of mum and child(ren). Anyone who judges a woman for undergoing a CS, needs to be enlightened .
ReplyDeleteThank you banke. My points exactly.
DeleteIn my case, it was a situation of hip dislocation which I didnt know about until after delivery via a ceasarean section. I remember also rebuking the devil when it it suggested that I take the cs route. Thank God I accepted the offer quickly enough. A lot of harm has been done to several women due to misguided cultural beliefs. May God help us. Nice write up Biodun.
